how the art of free writing saved me

Are you feeling disconnected from your authentic self?

Driven by job demands, societal expectations and a constant race for success, we often live a life designed by others and get lost in the web of life.

We forget our true selves.

We forget what we truly want.

We find comfort in living a life designed by someone else’s agenda.

This disconnection from our inner selves can lead to a life filled with confusion and dissatisfaction despite outward signs of success.

As a software developer in the tech industry, I was caught in this cycle.

My roles were engaging and rewarding, offering constant learning opportunities and financial security.

However, over time, a nagging feeling emerged.

It wasn’t a tangible void but rather a growing sense of disconnection.

I began to question what I truly desired from life. I realized that I was living my life based on an old script handed to me rather than creating my own.

Thus, I decided to embark on a journey of introspection.

I found clarity in a tool as old as civilization itself: journaling.

My journey with journaling began with free writing.

Raw, unfiltered writing where I allowed my thoughts to flow without any filters, without any fear of judgment.

I let my fingers fly across the keyboard, typing and typing until my conscious mind gave way to my subconscious.

This practice was a cathartic release, enabling me to express my inner thoughts and feelings without self-censorship or worry about perfection.

It was messy, riddled with typos, and seemingly nonsensical sentences.

Yet, in this chaos, I found clarity, serenity, and, most importantly, connection to my authentic self.

This revealed truths I hadn’t yet realized and explored the depths of my previously overlooked desires.

I realized that sharing these thoughts could inspire others or, at the very least, let them know they’re not alone in their struggles.

If you’re finding yourself disconnected from your desires and needs, consider embarking on a journey of self-exploration through free writing.

Here’s how you can get started:

1. Find your space: Choose a quiet place to sit comfortably with your thoughts.

2. Just write: Start writing about anything that comes to your mind. It might be about your day, dreams, fears, or even a random thought. Forget about grammar, punctuation, and logical sentence structure. You’ll be surprised by the thoughts and ideas that emerge when you stop filtering yourself.

3. Practice consistently: Make it a daily habit. You don’t have to write pages every day. A few lines or words reflecting your feelings or thoughts are enough.

4. Read and reflect: After a while, read your past entries. You’ll start seeing patterns of recurring thoughts, and you may gain fresh insights about yourself.

Remember…

The goal of free writing isn’t to produce perfect, publishable content. It’s to allow yourself to connect with your authentic self, understand your deepest desire, and spark your creativity.

Over time, you might find your life’s vision clearer, your days more meaningful, and your voice stronger.

My journey of self-exploration through writing has been transformative thus far, and it can be the same for others.

It’s time we break free from other people’s scripts and start writing our own.

We can become writers of our thoughts and our life’s design.

Remember, we’re all on this life journey together, and there is always time to start listening to your authentic voice.

My vision is to encourage a culture where curiosity guides us and our communities inspire us to grow.

Stay curious.
